ECU Students Call for Increased Crosswalk Safety After SUV Collision Injures Two

In the wake of a recent incident near East Tenth Street, where two women were struck by an SUV while in a campus crosswalk, East Carolina University students are voicing their concerns about road safety. Dante Evert, an ECU student, highlighted the alarming reality of crosswalk dangers, questioning the safety of their campus environment. The victims, Jenna Lucido, 19, and Hayle Cuff, 20, are currently hospitalized but expected to recover. A GoFundMe page has been established to support their medical and travel expenses, as both women hail from out of state. Students like Andrew Munsky stress the urgency for drivers to be more attentive, particularly at crosswalks. “Many are in a rush and often ignore warning signals, putting pedestrians and cyclists at risk,” he noted. As the ECU community rallies to support the victims, they hope this incident serves as a wake-up call for safer driving practices and vigilance among motorists to prevent future tragedies.
