Panama Village Enhances Pedestrian Safety with New Crosswalk Signs
The village of Panama is taking steps to improve pedestrian safety with the installation of new crosswalk signs, following a request from the state. Mayor William Schneider announced that most signs have already been installed at key locations, with a few remaining pending additional work related to natural gas installations. The crosswalks are located at Hyde Park and School Street, in compliance with state requirements.
During the November village meeting, Trustee Kim Ecklund suggested the addition of a yellow caution light to enhance visibility near the school, given concerns about drivers overlooking the crosswalk. Schneider noted that implementing such a blinker would require further discussion. The village plans to monitor the situation before considering additional enhancements. This initiative aims to create a safer environment for pedestrians and ensure that drivers are more aware of crosswalks in the area.
